And the dribbble invites go to..
A week after I announced my first dribbble invite giveaway, it’s time to put words into action.
First of all I want to say it was very hard picking two winners out of more than 60 people. It’s not because you didn’t get picked, I didn’t like your work. I kind of liked them all and I hate that I could only pick two winners.
If you didn’t get picked, do not despair. Next time I’ll have invites available, I’ll take your earlier participation into consideration.
Thanks for the great shots, it was a pleasure to view all of your work.
The winners of the giveaway are:
Abigail Halpin
Why?
Because I fell in love with her drawings and illustrations. They have a unique style and great color combinations. The comic diary she made is pretty impressive and I’d love to see more of her work.
Why?
Her style is consistent and the colors she uses fit perfect together. She hasn’t that much work to show off, but she’s eager to learn and what place is better for learning than dribbble? I’m looking foward to see her portfolio grow.
Dribbble invite giveaway

I assume that if you are reading this, you know what dribbble is (if you don’t, click here to find out). A month ago I put my first steps on the dribbble court. Now, I can hand out two invites myself.
To win one of the invites, follow these simple rules.
1. Mail or tweet a link to your portfolio or your 3 best pieces of work to info[@]kimwouters.be. If you are already a prospect on dribbble, you can put the link to your profile in the mail/tweet as well.
2. It would be nice if you tweeted this message: “Enter the @dribbble invite giveaway and win one of the two invites: http://d.pr/Y0Ca (via @kim_wouters)”
3. Follow me on twitter, because that’s where I’ll announce the winners.
4. Feel free to follow me on dribbble.
The contest will end on saturday september 10th at midnight. The winners will be announced and contacted on monday.
Good luck!
Why everyone should use Zootool

So, you never heard of Zootool before? First of all, that’s a shame. Second, you’re at the right place, because this article will explain you why you should create a zootool account right after reading this.
1. Zootool makes it possible to bookmark images, videos or the whole webpage. And that’s a big plus. You can save one image in stead of a whole website, making it a lot easier to find stuff.
2. Zootool is an amazing service as it is, but the people behind Zootool keep improvingthe service and make it even better. Because they’re constantly improving the service where they can, you should try Zootool.
3. It’s free to use. Enough said.
4. Beside the amazing part of bookmarking your own stuff, you get the option to follow fellow Zootoolusers and see what they are adding to their zoo. If you like what you see, you can add it to your own zoo as well.
5. It’s a visual service. As in: you can easily find back what you where looking for just by looking at the thumbnails. And if looking doesn’t do the trick, you can always search your zoo for tags.
6. Zootool has an iPhone app that is as easy to use as the webversion is. From now on you carry your zoo with you everywhere and add stuff on the go.
7. You decide the price you want to pay for the Pro membership yourself. If that isn’t nice, I don’t know what is. And did you notice the slider animation with the rhino, it’s awesome!
8. You can choose if you want to make the things you add to your zoo public or private. Creating your own inspiration stack for a secret project becomes just as easy as sharing things you like with everyone browsing the web.
9. Zootool is a webapplication but you can easily create a desktop version. It’s really helpful because your zoo is always only one click away. You can read here how to do that.
10. Last but not least: Zootool looks lovely. The lay-out, the colours, the icon and the rhino. It is a perfect match between every little detail of the site.
Feel free to take a look at my zoo and follow me.
Playing with Lion

Lion is almost two weeks on the market, so time for a little overview of the things I love and hate about Apple’s newest child.
Three things I hate about Lion
1. In my opinion the gestures got complicated. I use the function to go right away to my desktop a lot. The new gesture for going to the desktop is not that easy to use. I think Apple should give us the opportunity to choose the gestures ourselves. But for now MagicPrefs does the trick.
2. Launchpad is, uh, full of shit. I thought Launchpad should it make it easier to find applications, but it only got more complicated. And it’s almost impossible to delete an app you didn’t download from the mac app store. To clean up your Launchpad, you can use this little program. It lets you pick the apps you want to see in your Launchpad
3. The auto correct is a pain. It corrects words that are right and creates words that don’t even exist. So I disabled auto correct, but it keeps correcting my words. Don’t know why, don’t know how, but I don’t like it.
Three things I love about Lion
1. One of the things I use the most on my Macbook Pro is the Quick View function. I’m amazed that in Lion, the Quick View got even better than it was before. I really love how it works in stacks as well. You just place your cursor on the icon and press the spacebar.
2. The full screen mode is just awesome. It keeps me focused when I use it for browsing the web and it’s really nice for reading books, documents and my RSS-feed. Especially Reeder works like a charm.
3. The accents popup is something I hadn’t noticed at first, but now that I found it, I really love it. If you press and hold a letter in Lion, a iOS like popup will appear showing you the various accented versions of that letter.
My first steps on the dribbble court
Every once in a while I join a competition to win a dribbble invite and ten days ago, I received a tweet from Jamie D Payne saying “Hi Kim, like your work can you DM me your email and i will send it”. My heart skipped a beat and I was so excited that I had a little party in my head (since I was at work). I couldn’t believe I finally got a dribbble invite!
I like dribbble because looking at the work of other people gives me inspiration, by reading the comments on the shots of your co-dribbblers, you learn a lot. But most of all I love dribbble because it wants me to improve myself. To get better at designing stuff and to learn new things. To try out nice and cool stuff and to do things you would never have done otherwise.
So this week I challenged myself to make my first iPhone icon. It wasn’t a job or anything, it was just to learn and to improve my skills. And I’m pretty happy with the result.

And before I forget: you can follow me on dribbble.
